Chemical Inventories - Friend or Foe?

On May 25th, 2010, Triumvirate Environmental held a dynamic roundtable on Chemical Inventory Systems with the following experienced panel:

Jamie Herrick - Holy Cross
Frank Abel - Clark University
Mike Paterno - Harvard University
Matt Chiasson - Triumvirate Environmental

Triumvirate Environmental was able to collect insightful data from the chemical inventory survey sent out prior to the roundtable discussion.  The results helped shape the conversation of what is involved in choosing and implementing a chemical inventory system.

When selecting a chemical inventory system, it is important to keep in mind your institution's needs and requirements. One University's needs can be significantly different than another's.  The panel discussed their experiences with different chemical inventory systems, and the pros and cons of each. Many panel members agreed that implenting the system can be challenging.  They spoke of ways to make this process easier.  For example, it is important to get stakeholders involved and decide on when and how to train the users.  Without properly trained users, the chemical inventory system might not be sustainable.
