On December 16th, 2009, Triumvirate Environmental held a roundtable that covered EPA Inspection Preparedness and the emerging environmental health concerns of PCBs in building caulk. Rick Foote led the discussion on conducting internal audits and preparing for EPA/MDE Inspections. Sean Reagan, Triumvirate’s Corporate Director of Higher Education, and Ross Hartman, Triumvirate’s Corporate Director of Field/Engineering Services provided the most recent information on EPA’s new PCB caulk guidance and provided an overview of Triumvirate's remediation approaches and strategies.
Triumvirate Environmental has been actively engaged on the issue of PCBs in building caulk for the past 5 years with policy/strategy development, testing programs, project/remediation management, as well as developing innovative, cost-saving remedial approaches for PCB removal. Triumvirate provided the field testing and remediation services at several of the most significant projects in the Northeast. This issue has garnered increasing attention from the general public, regulated community and media outlets that has resulted in EPA releasing new guidance documents directed at mitigating the potential risks posed by PCBs in building caulk. While there remains research to be completed on the associated risks, the regulated community is left to navigate this very complex and significant environmental health issue.
