Spring cleaning projects (April 2009) - a Life Sciences Blog

It's the time of year where everyone is saying "thank goodness, spring is here". When most people think of spring, they think of ‘spring cleaning'; this can be applied not just to your home but at work as well.

Spring time is a great time to start projects that companies may have had on hold; mostly because of the satisfaction of cleaning out what they have onsite, and what has been lingering as a ‘to-do'.

Here's a list of materials/projects that are commonly undertaken at this time:

  • Disposing of old and outdated cylinders
  • Chemical inventory reconciliation
  • Disposing of old and outdated/expired chemicals
  • Laboratory/chemical moves
  • Laboratory decontaminations
  • Refrigerator and freezer cleanouts/decontaminations
  • Storm drain cleaning
  • Environmental compliance survey/assessments
  • Mock audit/inspections
  • Fume hood and bio-safety cabinet inspections

Granted this is not an exhaustive list, but if any of these sound like something that needs to be done at your facility; don't feel out of place - everyone has something that needs some ‘spring' cleaning!

Have I left anything out? Are there other items that we all could add to the Sping Cleaning list? Comment on this article for all to see or send me an e-mail here!
