Ensuring that wastewater from your facility meets or exceeds permit and regulatory limits can be very challenging. Regulatory limits for such chemicals as mercury and formaldehyde can be extremely low in some areas. For example, in the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority area (MWRA), mercury limits are set at four parts per billion. So how do you ensure that you are in compliance? Triumvirate Environmental's wastewater technicians and project managers specialize in locating sources of water contamination and eliminating the sources, or minimizing the impact these sources have on water quality. For wastes created during general production or manufacturing, Triumvirate Environmental will work with you to substitute less hazardous chemicals to use in the process or help you to select appropriate, end-of-line treatment technologies. Triumvirate Environmental has years of experience in helping to manage mercury remediation projects in particular. We identify and eliminate sources of mercury, clean and flush out pipes that may have collected mercury over the years, and, if necessary, install treatment systems to further reduce the levels of mercury in your wastewater.

Water Treatment Systems

Water treatment systems have become much more effective over the past few years. With improvements in technology, we are now able to significantly reduce or eliminate metals and various other chemicals from your wastewater and expect high performance levels. Triumvirate Environmental works one-on-one with some of the leading manufacturers of these technologies and will research and purchase the best system for your facility.

Operation & Maintenance

In addition to researching and installing water treatment systems, Triumvirate Environmental will also take on the responsibility of maintaining your system. Our certified technicians will do everything from changing filters to taking samples to ensuring the overall system operation. We will also provide 24-hour emergency response maintenance of your system to ensure that it is always up and running.

Acid Neutralization Tanks

Facilities with laboratories and other processes often have wastewater with a low pH. Acidic wastewater may need to be run through an acid neutralization system in order to meet discharge requirements, including but not limited to pH levels and solids levels. Triumvirate Environmental can work with your facility to determine treatment technology options and assist in the installation and maintenance of a neutralization system. In addition, Triumvirate Environmental can make your job easy by setting up an acid neutralization tank cleanout schedule for your facility. Acid neutralization tanks, like most other tanks, need to be cleaned regularly. Whether acids are neutralized by limestone chips or by mild liquid bases, solids will get into the system and need to be removed. If not cleaned regularly, solids could cause a backup of the system or simply cause the system to not function properly. Also, if stone chips are used to neutralize the wastewater, the chips will need to be replaced routinely and may need to be disposed of as a hazardous waste. During routine cleaning, the integrity of your acid neutralization tank can be checked too. Our field technicians will inspect your tank to ensure that it is free of cracks and other problems that may compromise its performance or result in a leak.

MWRA Sampling

If you obtain water from the MWRA system, chances are that your facility's wastewater is governed by certain standards and permitting requirements. The MWRA sites molybdenum, mercury, copper, lead and PCB's as some of the chemicals that are frequently found in levels exceeding limits. To ensure that your facility is within the bounds of your permit, it is recommended that your facility sample outflows periodically. If you have received a Notice of Noncompliance and/or a Notice of Violation, it is actually required that you sample periodically. Triumvirate Environmental has certified MWRA samplers on staff who can help you meet your sampling responsibilities and assist you in determining the best course of action based on test results.
